PM Phúc stresses need for international cooperation in fight against COVID-19

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc sent a video message to a teleconference of health ministers from the Western Pacific region hosted by World Health Organisation (WHO) on Wednesday, with a focus on fighting the COVID- 一 九 pandemic.

In his address, the Vietnamese Government leader stressed the need for international cooperation, solidarity and global all-out efforts to deal with the disease, while reiterating his trust in WHO in leading the fight against the pandemic.

Calling the outbreak one of the world’s greatest challenges since World War II, PM Phúc also shared Việt Nam’s experience and efforts in containing the disease by early recognition of the outbreak’s dangers since reports of the new pneumonia-like disease first emerged, along with robust implementation of aggressive quarantine protocols and co-ordinated suppression efforts.

He said that while the Vietnamese Government was striving to maintain a fine balance between sustaining the economy and fighting the coronavirus, it would always put people’s health first. — VNS
